More Plan Choice

Alight is your one-stop shop for individual Medicare plans. You'll also get personalized, unbiased guidance from an Alight licensed Benefits Advisor, who can help you find coverage that works for your needs.

There are three main types of Medicare plans: Medicare Advantage, Medicare Supplement Insurance (Medigap), and prescription drug plans.

Medicare Advantage

Also known as Part C, Medicare Advantage plans cover the same services as Original Medicare Parts A and B and often includes prescription drug coverage. These plans can be a good value if you’re looking for all-in-one medical and drug coverage.

Medicare Supplement Insurance (Medigap)

Also known as Medigap, Medicare Supplement Insurance helps pay some of the out-of-pockets costs that aren’t covered by Original Medicare, like copays, coinsurance and deductibles. With this option, most people buy two separate plans—a Medicare Supplement Insurance plan for medical expenses and a prescription drug plan for medications.

Prescription drug plans

Having a prescription drug plan (also called Part D) can provide protection against high drug costs. You can add a prescription drug plan to your Original Medicare plan or combine it with a Medicare Supplement Insurance plan.

Watch: Make sure your prescription drugs are covered

Dental, vision and hearing plans

You can also make sure your teeth, eyes, and ears are covered with an individual dental or vision plan, or bundled dental/vision/hearing coverage.

Preparing for your appointment

Doing a few simple things beforehand will save you time and ensure a smoother appointment.

Enroll in Original Medicare Parts A & B
You should be automatically enrolled in Original Medicare Parts A & B if you’re already receiving Social Security benefits. If you delayed Social Security beyond age 65 because you are still actively employed, you likely were not automatically enrolled.

If you’re not already enrolled in Medicare Parts A & B, be sure to enroll as soon as possible to avoid a lapse in coverage. You can do this through Social Security. Have your Medicare number as well as your Medicare plan's effective dates handy during the appointment so we can verify your coverage.

Activate your Alight account
Your mailed materials will include your Alight ID number. Use it to create your account on the Alight website so you can begin exploring plans.

Once logged in:

  1. Complete your profile. Be sure to add your doctors and prescription drugs.
  2. Go to Shop for Plans and select Find Medicare Plans.
  3. Save any plans you’d like to review during your appointment.

Prepare questions and invite a guest
Be sure to write down any questions you have and bring them to your appointment.

You may invite a guest to participate in your appointment. When you confirm your appointment, let Alight know that someone will be joining you.
